
The Association of Tennis Professionnals (ATP) was created in 1972 to protect the interests of men professional tennis players. In 1973 it sets up the classification of the professional players, named ATP ranking. Today is it which supervises greater men professional tournaments, called ATP World Tour. The equivalence for the women is the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
The main ATP sponsors are :
Mercedes-Benz : After a collaboration which lasted since 1996 with the ATP, the automobile mark Mercedes-Benz decided to stop the sponsorship with the tennis world. The three years old partnership contract which binds Mercedes-Benz and the ATP will end in December 2008 and will not be taken back.
South African Airways : In April 2006, the ATP and airline compagny announced a three-years partnership that saw the first African airline compagny become the “Official Airline of the ATP”.
Ricoh : The global leader in digital office automation equipment and ATP have been partners since March 2005. On July 2008, Ricoh extended the sponsorship for three more years.
The other parthers are Penn (Tennis Balls), Head (Tennis rackets, bags and balls), Pacific(Strings, grips, tunings, balls…), Tennis Warehouse (Tennis rackets and apparel), Enel (Energy) and Waterford Crystal (Trophy).
